But without doubt – the star for me was the small supporting role played by Tom Cruise as the foul studio chief Les Grossman.

A fabulously repulsive character and I hate to admit it but he gives all of us overweight hairy guys with balding tops hope in terms of cringe worthy dancing. Uh yeah! Woot Woot!

The following is a clip from that film where Les Grossman gives a new take on hostage negotiations… and then he dances…

Love it. Although I can’t help but count how many product placements appeared in this one clip. Kinda verging on out of control although I am sure the Maxim magazine and the Blackberry guys were delighted… the others? Not so sure. But probably.

The next clip is super short. It’s a teaser for the MTV Film Awards of which ‘Twillight’ tween and let’s face it MILFs heart throb Robert Pattinson appears with Les Grossman for a little bit of a reality check. Mad wood! it.

Naturally if your offended by bad language, Les Grossman or Vampire malarky then don’t click the play button.

The tendency, especially among males, to make educated (?) guesses about subjects and present them as fact.

The syndrome manifests itself most frequently when the sufferer is asked a question by a member of the opposite sex.

Female: Do I need to put premium gas in my car?

Male: Absolutely. If you don’t, you will short out your cam injector bearings.

Female: Uh, I think you are suffering from Male Answer Syndrome.

Some songs just shouldn’t be covered, like pretty much anything from the Beach Boys and the Beatles.

Yet some covers turn out to be in some ways kinda better than the original. Like Phil Collins cover of the Supremes ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’.

Perhaps it was the music clip.

One song that has always fascinated me is the classic party/pub song ‘Louie Louie’. The original by Richard Berry is so-so but some of the covers that followed… oh yes. 

I’ve collected covers of this song for years and have everything from orchestral arrangements, to former Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stooges with Iggy Pop, the Boss Bruce Springsteen and even aussie musical legends – Australian Crawl.

Midnight accuses me of being a music collector rather than a music lover. He may have a point but that’s another post.

The best known version, and if push came to shove and I wasn’t counting Young MC’s odd take, my personal fav’, is by The Kingsmen. This cover was ranked by the Rolling Stone’s Magazines Top 500 songs at number #55.

Must be good? It is.

Despite Louie oh’ing and Phil not wanting to hurry love, some songs are subjected to endless covers again and again when really the first time was more than enough. But there are always exceptions.

Tequila by a Mexican Rapper group called A.T.L. who produced the 1992 version does the impossible. They’ve stamped their own distinct personality on a much loved original – the 1958 recording by The Champs. And still stayed true to the spirit and magic of the song. No mean feat.

Which brings us to the current version of ‘Tequila’ currently being passed around the internet.

This version is performed by a talented German calling Australia home called The Wolfman with pick-the-accent-if-you-can vocals by Jessie G.

It’s not a Kingsmen or an A.L.T. but it’s okay isn’t it. Is the speed-bump ‘bleeping’ necessary? Perhaps that makes it more hard. Not sure.

We’ll have to standby for the 2011 version… I am secretly hoping it is one of those all girl former stripper groups from the UK. In the meantime…

It seems the musical fraternity are still holding on and resisting the siren calls of Facebook… for no other reason than I think that Facebook is less flexible in customizing landing pages and adding permanent media…

Having said that I’d imagine Mr Murdoch and his brains trust are currently working out madly how to Facebook the hell out of Myspace while the Facebook guys, currently under siege for suspected crimes against privacy,  are musing amongst themselves if they should allow for more Myspace styled functionality.

Perhaps both camps should have a duel – best version of Tequila at 10 shots.

Naturally if your prudish or the like… surf on and spare your eyes the trauma (although it should be said it all very G rated).

Ricky’s mother is a freak  get the hell out woman… this is not the time for a conversation that made an awkward moment super awkward…. aiiiya!

• Apparently homsexuality is not unlike smallpox…. well there you go, who woulda thunk?

• Yeah – most of my mates chat about wet dreams while tinkering over a push-mower… ok not really. This clip was NOT in any way a ‘Glee’ moment and perhaps ‘coach’ is not the best person to perform ad–hoc sex ed chats on the fly…creepy. The coach actually pears in three of these clips and it doesn’t improve… please coach, I need to quit the team and join Glee Club instead. Like now !

• The chat on a couch with handy flashcards… I swear this guy was the inspiration for the dad in the ‘American Pie’ movies, so very very earnest. I suspect that this kid has more issues troubling him than his erection personally.

• As a father of a daughter…. I gotta say  the familydeclaration of your daughter having her first period is personally on a need to know basis…. and I don’t need to know. Who knew that you can still wash your hair during your period… but only if you dry quickly… WTF? Avoiding square dancing is also a handy pointer.

• OK the ‘three holes’ clip… seriously this girl is as thick as a bag of cement… and the artful pointing and poking of the body map is… well like all these clips… just… yeah… that’s right, it is isn’t it?

• The penalty for exposing ‘your front’… harsh… and apparently if your intimate with a lady who says she is married – you’ll never get an STD… good to know. Turns out – not so much.
