So, I have to admit it. I’ve been lusting after an Amazon Kindle ever since I heard about them, and now that Amazon have released a 2.0 of the device, I want one twice as more.
Don’t get me wrong, I love analogue reading. There’s something satisfying about holding a real book in your hands that has almost nothing to do with the story inside.
And yet, the idea of being able to carry 200 books with me wherever I go [1] makes me go weak at the knees and supple at the elbows. I’d even happily buy one without the in-built functionality of being able to download new books wherever you happen to be [2]. Seriously, if I had to download the books and copy them over via USB, I’d still be thrilled!
But, of course, Amazon has no immediate plans to make the Kindle available outside the US, and Australia will probably be way down the list if and when they do make it available in other countries. Damn their eyes.
Which makes me wonder – what techno items do the other Voodoonista covet?

If you get an iPhone* and download a free application called Stanza, you can carry books around on your phone. The books are free too. And you can change the size of the font to match the age of your eyes.
*No, I don’t work for Apple. But I do love my iPhone. Clearly, picture messaging and bluetooth are not important to me.
Hi Sandie!
For a few crazy minutes I thought about doing exactly what you’re suggesting. Unfortunately (in one sense), I have a work phone, and I think work would have the special chat with me if I started racking up the kind of charges that usually go along with an iPhone.
So, I guess I’m just going to have to save my 5 cent pieces until I can afford a Sony Reader, and then I’m going to upset a few people by mailing them to someone as payment.
Great to see you on the site!

Sandi AKA Sandilicous – it’s nice to have another soft feminine insight into the world of Voodooness… you know… other than the girly touch that doily styling Stark Raving brings.
BEWARE: If you want a freakin reader before I leave HK you have exactly… well I can’t be exact but not much time left to get your fringfrang in the frangdowhopper. Shall scout this weekend and furnish you with cryptic reviews and assessment on models and prices… and some will be for readers… maybe even electronic book styled ones.
