This particular cartoon currently making the www rounds made me laugh… and then I gave it some thought… re-read it… and now I’m not laughing at all. In fact I’m a tad upset to be frank.
Coincidently the Australian federal budget for 2008 is to be handed down this evening.
I fully expect that tomorrow will be the same as today in terms of excruciatingly high prices balanced out by next to no level of service and care. Not restricted to the petrol highway robbers either. If it has a cash register - be prepared to be robbed blind and treated like proverbials (not the good silky ones… the nasty nasty fungus ridden ones with the dried film across the top).
What will be different however is that the endless forms that I’ll be expected to fill out will be from freshly re-badged government departments …but more so.

ok the budget has been presented… and I am kinda delighted. A little. It would seem that we’ve all paid way too much tax as we have a $21 billion dollar surplus… and factoring into account the new governments razor gang work… it amounts to a whopping $40 billion dollars-ish. Now my position on these things is that their should never be a surplus as its the citizens money and it should be spent on infrastructure and so on… and it freaks me out to type this but the government kinda agrees so they have whacked the entire amount into three different ‘future’ funds for use solely in health, education, roads, broadband… bloody hell. I am impressed. I am serious here - this is really impressive and makes an old digger a very very pleased cobber indeed… not sure where that came from… I guess this morning I’m just so delighted in being an Aussie. Thanks Wayne and Kevvie - well done.
