Caption Slugfest: “Anyone Seen Eddie?”

Tick Tick Tick Tick….. Tick…

Hi Everyone,

I think we’ve had a reasonable period of time to get over the last Caption Slugfest, so it’s about time we launched another one.

This time around, however, we’re going to run the actual caption submissions over in the Forum, because frankly it would be nice if Darren Saturday wasn’t spending all of his time over there on his own.

So, head on over to the forum, and let the Slugfest begin!

    Apologies to M@M…(more meta-humor)

This time not expecting any bonus points for technical difficulty, Trevor simply left the competition after another controversial interpretation of the Tango.

Cough. I’m gonna just assume it was an honest mistake that you didn’t post this over in the forum. No really, it could happen to anyone. Because, obviously, the phrase, “So, head on over to the forum, and let the Slugfest begin!” is a little oblique and honestly who wouldn’t ignore it?

Dear Grod, you’re so very Stark Raving…

Um as this was just some meta humor and not an actual entry into the slugfest I thought that I would post it here…

….look I don’t want to be a prat or even a toe-rag but what is ‘meta-humor’ or even ‘meta-humour’… is this one of those programming code monkey things or is it possible I’m simply not that highly evolved….oh….bugger.

left myself open on that one I guess.

Well, it’s not like I’m an expert on this, but I’d have said “Meta Humour” is not when you’re making with the funny, it’s when you’re making with the funny about the funny. It’s referential humour, where some part of why you’re laughing is not necessarily entirely about what was said, but the referential context in which it was said.

Also, you’re really not that highly evolved, I’ve seen you before you shave in the morning, and Dear Grod it ain’t funny at all.

‘Meta-Humor’ is best described as 1. a ‘joke about a joke’ 2. A good way to annoy Darren Saturday.

    Now the side rant.
I choose to spell humor without the ‘u’ because it doesn’t make sense to have it there…the Americans got this one correct way back when they decided to misspell colour.

The following spellings are from my Australian Pocket Oxford…
One who writes, talks or acts ‘humour’ – they’re humorists (with no ‘u’)…something that’s funny is humorous (with a ‘u’ but not after the ‘o’)…someone who doesn’t get ‘meta-humor’ is humourless (oh bugger it has a ‘u’ doesn’t it – so much for that rant)
