The cool bit in Dr Who

I really like my mobile ringtone, but I’m beginning to realise that it’s causing me problems.

It’s the theme song from the Dr Who series [1], and the problem is that there is a definite ‘cool bit’ in the song and there’s no point listening to the intro if you don’t wait for the cool bit to happen [2].

Actually, the problem is not so much that there’s a cool bit in the song, the problem is that once you hear the cool bit you have about 0.04 nanoseconds to answer the call before it diverts to messagebank. I’m missing so many calls because I’m waiting to hear the cool bit, and I wonder if the people calling me know that I’m sitting there, holding my phone up beside my head, going “dunga-nana dunga-nana dunga-nana oooOOOOO” right along with the song before frantically trying to answer the call before it diverts?

It would be so embarrassing if people knew that…

Footnotes:

1. Which if you don’t know what that sounds like then can I ask under which rock from what Universe outside the known space-time continuum have you been hiding?

2. For those who are obsessively detail-oriented, the cool bit is the bit where the song goes “oooOOOO, OOOooOOOOO” after the “dunga-nana dunga-nana dunga-nana” bit.

Sigh…I decided to go for the standard Nokia ringtone on my phone (which took some effort as I have a Samsung). The reasons I went for the standard tone and not a swank new modish tone is that I don’t need the intro to ‘Star Trek’, announcing my calls, to inform my partner, my family and my workmates that I am a geek. They already know.

Anyway back to your problem. If you extended your ring time you could annoy your workmates for an extra ten seconds before having to answer your phone…Trust me they’ll thankyou for it….oooOOOO, OOOooOOOOO
