Been dropping in and out of the current Presidential nominee elections coverage and I’m liking the idea of ‘The Purple Party’ - neither Democrat blue or Republican red. It’s a strange democratic process. Nominees bang away at each other until one remains - and then they return to the people for another go hoping that all that mud that their failed party competitors had previously slung won’t stick… so much. A whole year of pre-election elections - no wonder voter turnout is always a struggle. The Australian version of a couple of weeks of hard-at with Prime Ministerial candidates determined by their party and endless public opinion polling kinda seems to be much kinder… and the law requiring all citizens of age to vote doesn’t hurt. I wonder how much this would change if or when Australia makes the step towards a Republic with it’s own President role. Anyhoo…. enjoy the part-aaay.
