4. Creative Exchange - “I Need You Tonight”

SAI LI FROM SHANGHAI HAS LOGGED ON.

[11:00:06 AM] Sally says: It’s the desert flower from the Pearl of the Orient - it is the Sai Li!!!

[11:15:18 AM] Darren says: Hi there blossom, we are running real late today so I’ll just dive straight in with the rework with INXS as requested.

As guests enter the room they are confronted with an astonishing event environment that intrigues and enchants. A magical textile forest of endless drops of sheer white chiffon material all cascading down from above and pulling up just short of general head height.
If one concentrates one can hear a musical symphony of crystal bells tinkling in the air.

The stage itself features an exotic white lycra ‘Bedouin’ tent framed by a many layered white chiffon backdrop resplendent with thick luxurious folds. The stage surface itself is finished with a matt silver hard surface streaked with reflective holographic glitter paint in broad swirling strokes.

The entire room is treated in a highly textured layered lighting design approach in which various hues and tones of a common colour are featured. On entry the room features a rainbow of blue – from light ice, to duck egg through to the deeper royal blue tones.

As the audience seat/gather – the lighting in the room drops to a barely visible gold state and a solitary synthesized beat is heard. Steadily building in intensity. The occasional CO2 effect is fired off from various points around the stage.

The highly anticipated SEPTEM launch is about to commence – and with that an artful mix of concealed smoke machines from either side of stage belch into action. Smoke canisters are elaborately tossed across the stage by two characters who present themselves in formal tuxedos and cirque inspired full white faces. They are joined by a number of other tuxedo’s as they manhandle giant industrial fans mounted on coasters to stage. The soundtrack from INXS international hit “I Need You Tonight” fills the airwaves with it’s unrelenting bass throb.

As these brutish fans power up, material strips attached dance. The ornate stage dressing billow into a life of their own. Deep within the room, the aerial dressing also joins in this magical wind dance with truss rigged fans powering up. The whole room animates.

The lighting design with a pronounced use of light and shade, introduces brilliant pinks from within the Bedouin tent. On cue the flaps are slung open and nine tightly co-ordinated fabulous looking models present themselves and proceed to ‘vogue’. The tuxedo characters gathered to one side applauded before one by one they break from their collective and present their arm to their partner model.

To the strong beat of ‘Need You Tonight’ the ensemble engage in a highly choreographed rock-waltz center stage. On cue, each couple peel away to make their own power-stride up the catwalk to present the SEPTEM model to the audience. The presentation involves the model shifting from point to point in an exaggerated fashion while the tuxedo partner goes down on one knee to declare bonded servitude.

The dancing couples come back together as one cohesive mass. They continue to dance before forming an impromptu guard of honor. Deep within the strange organic shaped stage tent – out stream a large number of surprise SEPTEM delegates. Together they all dance as one in celebration of SEPTEM.

As the track reaches it’s climax – the entire white chiffon surface draped along the stage back wall dramatically drops to reveal the new SEPTEM logo for all to see.
Stage lights out signage lights are a go.

Need You Tonight? No. Need SEPTEM Tonight!
